HOW TO SETUP AN EMC BACKUP TO CHANGE FROM THE DEFAULT OPTIONS

We have been contacted direct for clarification concerning the origin of our Backup routine.
So for the avoidance of doubt please note that there has been a claim on eMC Forum that this
routine is a copy of an official eMC post of this routine - it is NOT! This routine version was first
written by Compucall Solutions for our own use on or about  2019-08-03T21:26:57.98+01:00
specifically for our eMC client use. There are similar routines available for other email clients
The first official post noted on eMC Forum is December 2020, more than 12 months later.

This example is set to run every day at 0730 hrs, and save the backup from the last 32 days
You can change the start time, frequency and number of backups to suit your requirements

1./ Setup the eMC default Backup at Menu-> Settings-> General-> Backup. (select 1 Day & 1 Backup)
2./ Run Menu-> Backup wnen complete go back and DISABLE Backup (uncheck Enable) Save & Close
3./ You now need to open Windows Administrative Tools or Windows Tools (this is your OS dependant)
4./ Open Task Scheduler then in left column select Task Scheduler Library

If you are capable you can skip items #1 to #4 and create a task from scratch - this is not advised

5./ In centre window scroll down to eM Client and Double Click
6./ In new window select and open Triggers followed by Edit to change Backup time & frequency and click OK
7./Next select Actions then New and ensure that in Action: Start a program is selected
8./ At Program/Script - Browse to: C:\Windows\System32\forfiles.exe and select
9./ At Add Argument copy & paste the following ONLY when you have corrected the path to suit your system:

/p "E:\Program Files\eM Client\#_Data\#_Backup_#" /s /d -32 /c "cmd /c del @file"

The above is for my system - the part/path you will need to change is below:

Change this:    E:\Program Files\eM Client\#_Data\#_Backup_#

Be absolutely certain that you do NOT alter any spacing or these      " \ /       characters
You can change "-32" your number of Backups, when Backup reaches this it will delete the oldest
Do NOT FORGET to ENABLE when you have completed the edit.
AND, it is also sensible to store Backup files remotely, particularly if they are "mission critical"
Ideally off-site on another computer, storage disc or the Cloud for instance.
(for legal reasons I go back 7 years with an archive to 31/12/2005)

IF YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND ASK DO NOT GUESS BECAUSE.....
